Kuwait Public Transport Co. is considered a major company in the public transport field in the Arab nation. The idea of its foundation arose from the importance of public transport in the country as an assisting factor in the economic and social growth, contemporary to the development of construction in Kuwait and the difficulty of transport, the diversity of regions and their need during the development phase to a public transport network to link the regions of Kuwait.

Kuwait Public Transport Co. was founded by virtue of the Amiri Decree No. 60 of 1962 under the name “Kuwait Communications Co.” with the objective of performing all public land transport operations inside and outside Kuwait, particularly the operations related to the transport of passengers. On September 25, 1965, the company began its first steps towards the achievement of its objectives by operating 100 buses on ten lines with a studied method. In 1976, the company developed its activity and contracts were concluded with the Ministry of Education to transport schools' students by 72 buses. During 1987, the marine transport service was included in the company's services and the marine transport is considered a specialized service of Public Transport Co. as the Marine Transport Department links Filka Island to a Kuwaiti region and operates as a tourism service within the company's services. To be up-to-date with the development in the transport field, the automated collection system was inserted in 2001 which had the quickness, accuracy of periodic reports and specification of the type of buses used. In 2004, the company completed the replacement of a whole fleet by new air-conditioned buses convenient to the nature of the region. The future plans of the company consist on the insertion of the most modern systems in force in international companies. The company performs field studies in order to develop the transport network in a way serving all users of public transport buses all over the world.
